Window Replacement Planning Guide for Sonoma County

Questions, documentation, and comparisons to prepare before selecting a provider.

Document the existing openings

Record approximate dimensions, frame and sill condition, operation problems, visible water damage, drafts, condensation between panes, exterior exposure, interior trim, access constraints, and the outcome you want. Final ordering measurements should be taken by the party responsible for supplying and installing the product.

Compare equivalent product specifications

Ask each provider to identify frame material, product line, glass configuration, coatings, spacers, screens, hardware, egress requirements, safety glazing, color, finish, and performance ratings. Confirm that comparisons use equivalent products and scopes.

Define the installation scope

The written scope should state the installation method, responsibility for concealed damage, flashing and water management, insulation, interior and exterior finish work, disposal, cleanup, permits, inspections, access, protection, schedule, and change-order process.

Verify the selected provider

Verify the exact legal name, current contractor license and classification, insurance, references, product authorization when relevant, and the identity of every party responsible for measurement, supply, installation, payment, and warranty service.

Review pricing and warranty documents

Request an itemized proposal and written payment schedule. Do not assume that a rebate, tax credit, financing program, manufacturer warranty, or labor warranty applies. Confirm current eligibility, issuer, coverage, exclusions, transferability, claim procedure, and responsible legal entity in writing.

Use the project request form

A submitted request is reviewed for routing and does not guarantee provider availability, pricing, acceptance, response time, financing, incentive eligibility, product availability, or warranty terms.
